Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 17, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Nudgebase (“UnStrander,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use UnStrander — a macOS application that turns your iCloud-synced Apple Voice Memos into an organized, searchable library of musical ideas, and the related website and online services (together, the “Service”).

UnStrander is designed to be private by default. Your recordings are analyzed, transcribed, and titled on your Mac. Neither your audio nor your transcript text is sent to us or to any AI provider for analysis, transcription, or titling.

1. Information We Collect

UnStrander is a local-first application. The large majority of your data — including your recordings and their transcripts — stays on your Mac. The limited information involved in providing the Service is described below.

  • Recordings and audio. UnStrander reads your iCloud-synced Voice Memos library on your Mac to analyze, transcribe, and title it. Audio analysis, transcription, and titling all happen locally on your device. Your audio files and transcript text are not uploaded to us, or to any AI provider, for analysis, transcription, or titling.
  • Signup information. If you request an invite on our website, we collect the first name, last name, and email address you enter, and a phone number if you choose to give one. We also automatically record your browser’s user-agent string, the time of the request, the page that referred you, and any campaign tags (UTM parameters) in the link you followed.
  • License information. If you activate a license, we process your license key and a device (instance) name — for example, “UnStrander on” your Mac’s name — through our licensing and payments provider to activate and validate your license.
  • Optional device sync. If you enable device sync, audio you send from another device is temporarily relayed through our cloud storage so it can reach your Mac, then deleted after transfer (see “Data Retention”). This happens only if you turn the feature on.
  • Private share links. If you choose to share a recording through a private link, the app encrypts the recording, its title, and your name (and your website, if you have added one to your profile) on your Mac, and uploads the encrypted copy to our cloud storage. The key that unlocks it is part of the link itself and is never sent to us, so we cannot play the recording or read its title. We keep only what is needed to run the link: when it was created, when it expires (an unlimited link does not expire), how many times it has been opened, and a one-way hash of your license key or a trial identifier. Each time someone listens through a private link, we also record the time and the listener’s IP address, and show them to you, the person who shared the link, in the app, so you can see when and from where it was played. Nobody else can see them. Device sync and private share links are the only cases in which audio passes through our systems, and each happens only if you choose it.
  • App usage analytics. Unless you turn it off in the app’s Privacy settings, the app sends us usage counts, not content: the size of your library, how many recordings fall into each content type (for example, guitar or spoken word), how often features are used, and basic technical details such as your app and macOS versions, processor type, memory, and transcription model. Reports are labeled with a random install identifier rather than your name or email, and never include lyrics, titles, filenames, or audio. Each report is authenticated with your license key, which is not stored with the report.
  • Problem reports. Only if you turn them on (during setup, at “Help us fix problems,” or in the app’s Privacy settings), the app sends a report to Sentry, our error-reporting provider, when the app crashes or something fails. A report holds the kind of error, where in the app’s code it happened, a short error message with names, file paths, email addresses, links, and other identifiers removed, your app, macOS, and Mac model versions, and the same random install identifier the usage counts use. It never includes audio, transcripts, lyrics, titles, notes, file names, your profile, your license key, share links, or the app’s log, and no crash memory dump is attached. Problem reports are off unless you turn them on, and turning them off stops sending at once, including any reports still waiting to be sent.
  • Website analytics. Our website uses Google Analytics, which uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as the pages you view, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your browser and device type. The UnStrander app does not include Google Analytics.
  • Usage and technical data. Our website website and online services may process basic technical data such as your IP address (used transiently to rate-limit requests and not stored alongside your other information), timestamps, and request metadata needed to operate, secure, and debug the Service. The one exception is a listen through a private share link, whose time and IP address are kept with the link, as described above.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide the Service.
  • To activate and validate licenses and to manage invites.
  • To relay device-sync audio to your Mac, if you enable that feature.
  • To deliver a private share link to the person you send it to, if you create one.
  • To understand how the app and website are used, through usage and website analytics.
  • To respond to your requests and send service-related messages, such as license or invite updates.
  • To secure, maintain, debug, and improve the Service, including rate-limiting and abuse prevention.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. Local Processing and Your Recordings

Audio analysis, transcription, titling, categorization, and search all run locally on your Mac, using models that run on your device. Your audio and transcript text are not uploaded to us, or to any AI provider, for analysis, transcription, or titling.

UnStrander reads the Apple Voice Memos library without modifying it. The titles, transcripts, categories, tags, reviewed status, and trash state that UnStrander creates live in UnStrander’s separate local workspace on your Mac — hiding or trashing an item in UnStrander does not delete the original Voice Memo.

In normal use, your recordings, transcripts, and lyrics are not sent off your device. Audio passes through our systems only if you enable the optional device-sync feature or share a private link, as described above, and a private link’s audio is encrypted before it leaves your Mac.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the Service, under contractual confidentiality obligations, and where required for legal compliance:

  • DigitalOcean — hosting for our website and online services, and cloud object storage for signup records, usage analytics reports, encrypted private-link copies, and any temporary device-sync audio.
  • Google — Google Analytics on our website, which measures visits to its pages.
  • Sentry — error reporting, which receives problem reports from the app if you have turned them on.
  • Lemon Squeezy — our licensing and payments provider, which activates and validates your license and stores the related license and instance data.
  • Legal compliance — when required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the Service.

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing.

5. Data Retention

Your recordings, transcripts, and the rest of your UnStrander library are stored locally on your Mac and are retained until you remove them or uninstall the app.

Signup records are retained until you ask us to delete them. Usage analytics reports contain no content from your library and are retained until we no longer need them to understand how the app is used. Problem reports are kept by Sentry only as long as we need them to find and fix problems, and no longer than Sentry’s retention period. The encrypted copy behind a one-time private share link is deleted after it is played. A 24-hour private share link stops working within 24 hours, and expired copies are removed from our cloud storage by an automatic cleanup, usually within about an hour. An unlimited private share link works until you revoke it in the app, which deletes its encrypted copy at once. A link’s listen record (each listen’s time and IP address) is kept only as long as the link itself and is deleted with it, whether the link is played once, expires, or is revoked. Device-sync audio is deleted after it reaches your Mac and, as a failsafe, is removed from our cloud storage within about seven days. License and payment data is handled by our licensing provider according to its own retention policies.

6. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we handle, including encrypted connections for data in transit. Because UnStrander keeps your recordings and transcripts on your own Mac, their security also depends on the security of your device. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access or update your signup or license information.
  • Delete your local UnStrander workspace at any time by removing it or uninstalling the app.
  • Leave the optional device-sync feature off; if it is off, no device-sync audio passes through our systems.
  • Choose whether to create private share links; if you do not, no encrypted copy is uploaded.
  • Turn off usage analytics in the app’s Privacy settings; if it is off, no usage counts are sent.
  • Leave problem reports off, or turn them off in the app’s Privacy settings; if they are off, no problem reports are sent.
  • Limit Google Analytics on our website through your browser’s cookie settings or Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
  • Request deletion of the signup or license information we hold about you.

To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above.
